Website eases anxiety over engg counselling session

A website designed with Karnataka engineering students in mind could be a one-stop shop for student queries. The website (www.enggresources.com) was first created three years ago by a team of five engineering students. Today, it offers an overall knowledge solution for up-and-coming, current and even graduated engineering students.

A popular addition to the site has been the engineering entrance `mock counselling session.' By entering an expected rank from this year's COMEDK exam, students are given a list of colleges in which they are likely to land a seat. Last year's cut-off data is used to approximate this year's seat offers...

Last year, besides listing colleges, options and detailed lists, the website provided cut-off lists for each college. Compare your rank to last year’s list to get an idea. But this could be misleading, warns Jawahar D., CEO of PES group of institutions, because it is based on figures on closing day of admissions. Instead, Prof. Jawahar recommends websites such as www.enggresources.com. This site, for instance, provides a table which ranks colleges on the basis of popularity among students. Another list ranks colleges on the basis of their results and academic performance. Interestingly, PES Institute of Technology, which is ranked 22 on the popularity list, finds itself ranked fourth in terms of results. “Such listings give you an overall picture.” ..
