Hai friend, the book prescribed is also goog the programs is also more .but padmareddy is better when we consider examination point of view, bcoz only the examination portions are covered in the book. Balaguruswamy is also fine where the standard is maintained and clear picture can be seen.dont get tensed. u make use of library for books prescribed by VTU.

First go through the VTU authors like padma reddy and understand the concepts and programming tips.
Later go through the prescribed books and revise the things and solve the excercise questions if you are interested.
Dont dependent on only one book.
Dont worry, understand the concepts.

HI
Data Strutures is a very general topic which one requires even at later stages in an IT career. I guess it is best studied with an eye on the future and not just 3rd Sem.
I suggest "Introduction to data structures and algortihms" by the famous CLRS...

As far as i have known, evn though padma reddy's good from exam point of view..to understand data structures, i'd say behrouz is pretty good. The concepts abt C is explained well..
